about

An uplifting album choc full of funky and smooth numbers, it somehow manages to sprinkle 6 awesome decades of varied influences over Duncan Alex’s own incredibly original and invigorating alternative prog pop/rock/RnB compositions. Smooth vocals are set against 70's/80's- style vocoder and fluid, gritty guitar riffing by Exmouth local guitar hero Ian Davey, underpinned by alternately warm and foot stomping basslines. This musical adventure has several surprises in store - such as the husky tones of guest vocalist Jess Hatton-Brown. It starts great and gets even better, rewarding repeated listens, leaving you wanting more. BBC radio described the track ‘Before Us’ as, “So much happening that it shouldn’t work but it flippin' well does…we don’t know how you do it, just keep doing it!” - So say we all.

i wish i may, i wish i might
have the wish i wish tonight
it is the dusk, it'll soon be night
darker than the iris of your eye

slip into the hourglass
a thousand years, the time will pass
all we know a grain of sand
and all we love is suffered by our own hands

all we love is smothered by our own hand

a billion mouths a billion pains
drought and rains are all our banes
and we shall pray and we shall fight but
all we know is gone before the light

now i can get up on my high horse
but you wouldn't listen to me
cos i do the same thing that you do
i live and i eat and i breath

but this ain't the way we can make it
this ain't the way that we relieve
and this earth was here long long before us
and she ain't gonna cry when we leave

don’t say a word
like your lips are sentries
you won’t make a sound
cos your lungs will be empty

don’t think a thought
cos we can see you have plenty
and you paid for the view
there’s no time for repenting

don’t look away cos we have a reminder
your life to us is as a fly to the spider
and we need you to see what we do with insiders
so look to the sky ‘cos the stars cannot hide us

go to sleep now, don’t you use your mind
for in your mind, are the answers
mm, we don’t want you to find

say it’s absurd, just once out of twenty
to keep yourself sane, from all that is empty

you don’t feel the gap
don’t see the trap
but you fill it with empty

go to sleep now
stop, take a nap
stop, take a nap
need you to see
stop, take a nap
Track Name: Trouble
when there was trouble down the river
yeah that's the one that you cried
your mamma told you that she loved you
and boy, you needed that besides

see the tempo, tempo's different now
vibrations ain't too good
danger, strangers ain’t so good
wavelength's are knocking you off kilter, baby
what could never happen, now could

see the tempo, tempo's different now
vibrations ain't too good
danger, strangers ain’t so good

fifteen years gone by and i’m telling you
i ain’t seen nothing of your change
‘cos when there’s trouble down the river
i saw you run the other way
and it’s a slippery slide- you slid down almost all the way
down into the swamp where the crocodiles roam
the garbage dumpsters piled up higher and higher
you sniff them out and you take ‘em home

never gonna get away
never never

i never minded all the sh— you got up to
but girl you never said goodbye (boohoo)
so don’t you bother comin’ round here no more
’til you can look me in the eye

vibrations ain't too good
danger, strangers ain’t so good
don’t you come here no more
don’t you come no more
aahhh
don’t you come here no more

see the tempo, tempo's different now
vibrations ain't too good
danger, strangers ain’t so good

see the tempo, tempo's different now
vibrations ain't too good
danger, strangers ain’t so good

if it's all around, don't you think we could feel it?
if it's in this town, don't you think i’d have seen it?
all this time i’ve lain dormant waiting to feel it
living in this town, i have never come near it

there's no disguise
when i look in your eyes

this is love
is this love?
is this thing called love?
what is this thing called love?

and i symphathise, ‘cos it's hard to believe in
so many tempting lies for us to wade knee deep in

there's no disguise
when i look in your eyes

this is love
is this love?
is this thing called love?
what is this thing called love?

row, row, row your boat
gently down the stream

is this love?
is this thing called love?
what is this thing called love?

there's no disguise.

sinking in the sand, crying in the stands
you gotta hustle

small town boy on the big big steal
something so good don't believe it's real
living from a suitcase getting your fill
sycophantic MPs giving you thrills (aaah)

here you are, here they are
take it from them for a start
what you gonna do
to make your dreams come true

dylan said the truth is one big lie
all of these things just pass me by
yeah they’re printing fake money in the corner of my eye
they’re singing my praise then they make me cry

here you are, here they are
take it from them for a start
what you gonna do
to make your dreams come true

here you are, here they are
take it from them for a start
what you gonna do
to make your dreams come true

you gotta hustle
use your muscle to beat the bustle
you gotta hustle

yeah smell the agenda but please don't believe in it
they'll close off the options one-by-one til the end
til you have nothing and no-one left to defend
sinking in the sand, crying in the stand

hustle
what are you gonna do?
what are you gonna do?

amy bailey struts into Paris Club dressed for trouble
feels good about boyfriend, wants to go the next level
she's keeping mum and she’s playing it cool
but after a few she blurts out the news, bad idea
a minute later she's come out to cry
desperately searching her bag as drops fall from the sky
and to make matters worse, she's right out of fags
that's when the shots fire from a tinted windows four wheel drive

there's three guys in the front seat
and they’re daring one another
one's got a gun, his mate says "whatever"
oooh
he’s got a gun
oooh

there's so little left of Daisy, she's braver than most
she won't go to a home, she still makes a killer roast (ooh)
she does her own groceries and carries her own bags
she catches the bus, she’s still a pretty darn welcoming host
now she's walking the streets, only stooping slightly
and notices the sun shines a little less brightly
these days, she's happier for global warming
'cos it keeps the bills down and her garden bees swarming
(heh heh)

there's three guys coming
and they're daring each other
one's got a knife
his mate says "whatever"

why, why you goin’ do this for?
why, the hell you doin’ this?
why?

he’s got a knife
why did you have to go
why did they have to take you?
Track Name: The Most Dangerous Thing

i wanted
the most dangerous thing
maybe i got it
just what was due to me
i was not
quite what i wanted
nothing's so easy
when you want everything

i feel nothing right now
this ain’t gonna beat me
i feel like a robot right now

so what have i learned
i'm going to get burned
all things i need
ain't the things i yearned

it’s a dangerous thing
if you don’t know yourself
it’s a dangerous thing
could be bad for your health

crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy

i should be
i should be happy
happy to be me
living life blissfully

and i don't need
more of this crazy
thing that they tie to me
maybe it'll bury me

so what have i learned
i'm going to get burned
all things i need
ain't the things i yearned

so what have i learned
i'm going to get burned
all things i need
ain't the things i yearned

smoke and mirrors
paths and pillars
saints and sinners
we’re just beginners
Track Name: War for the Innocent

i give my trust to you
there's nothing else to do
so if it's fine by you
i give my life to you

i’ve nothing much to prove
and i have naught to lose
for living life for you
is a simple thing to do

don't have the luxury
of knowing history
of being wrong or right
just cast into the night

we have no use for dreams
we have no strength for sleep
war knocks on every door
blood from the homes it pours

the darkness spreads the world
into the fire we're hurled
it lasts a thousand years
long after mothers' tears

the battle carries on
and if only there were just the one
but no miracles belong
outside the realm of song

i gave my life to you
there's nothing i could do
so if it's fine by you
i’ll keep on being blue

and when the fires burned it all to the ground
bereft of hope, we see the fear in our father’s eyes
we know the truth is lies

make no mistake
this evil has no face, our vigilance can’t rest

and as a youth we saw through youthful eyes
if anger wins the war, we could die today
so patience be my friend, and we’ll survive today

feels like we’re going under
i don’t believe, believe the things i’m seeing

what happens next, the giant wounded makes his threats
“my anger knows no end!”
i don’t believe, believe the things i’m seeing
